AI Use Policy
Version 2026-10-24 · in effect from 24 October 2026
Some of Learn It With Me's tools use artificial intelligence (AI). Everyone reads and accepts this policy once before they can use them: before buying AI credits, uploading an essay, checking a transcript or a graph, or seeing and releasing AI marking. One acceptance opens every AI feature.
What the AI does
Essay Assessment uses AI (Anthropic's Claude models, through Amazon Bedrock) to read handwriting, describe graphs and diagrams, and suggest marks and feedback against the subject's mark scheme. Reading a handwritten essay takes one AI credit, and marking an essay one.
Where it happens, and what's kept
- AI processing takes place in Australia or New Zealand (Amazon Web Services' Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland regions). Nothing is sent to AI anywhere else.
- Nothing you send is used to train AI, by us, Amazon or Anthropic.
- Nothing is stored outside New Zealand, unless the law requires it. The AI service works on what it's sent and keeps none of it; your essays, transcripts and marking are kept on our servers in Auckland, as our privacy notice explains.
Keep personal information out
Whoever uploads or reviews work is responsible for making sure nothing that identifies a person is sent to the AI: no names, student numbers, email addresses, school names or anything else that says who someone is. Before an essay is read you can cover anything like that on its pages, and you check the transcript before it's marked. We also take out the names, emails and student numbers we know of, but that is a safety net, not a replacement for checking.
AI makes mistakes
- AI can misread handwriting, misunderstand a graph, and give marks or feedback that are wrong, inconsistent or biased. Use it as a guide, not as a source of truth.
- Final grading is a human activity, not an AI one. Teachers check and validate every grade before it's released to a student, and can change the marks. A grade a student sees on their own practice essay is an AI estimate, to learn from: it isn't a teacher's grade.
- If something looks wrong, say so: every AI result can be rated or reported, and a teacher can have an essay marked again.
Schools, teachers and students
- A school can switch AI essay assessment off for everyone in it, at any time.
- Students: your teacher and school may have their own rules about using AI. Follow them, and don't present AI feedback as your own work.
- Writing that suggests someone may be at risk is held for a person at the school to look at before anything else happens.
